OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1962 by Lawrence and Shirley Culbreth, Bay Electric Co., Inc. functioned primarily as a small electrical service company until 1997 when John F. Biagas purchased the company and expanded its operations. Though Bay was an electrical service company, John Biagas’ vision was to expand the company’s offerings to include Design Build, Renovation/Repair General Construction and engineering as well as electrical, technology, security, and fire alarm systems and services.

Although the name Bay Electric exemplifies a discipline that our team focuses on with precision and quality workmanship, Bay is a full-service electrical and general contractor capable of managing a wide range of construction projects. Since John’s acquisition, Bay Electric has worked on multi-million dollar projects for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, United States Postal Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and numerous private, local, and state entities.

Currently, our employees consist of electrical and general construction project managers, electrical project managers, electrical estimators, professional engineers, electricians, superintendents, marketing/technical writers and contracts administrative support staff. With approximately 40 employees, Bay has offices in Richmond, Virginia; and Lake Charles and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Because of our strong foundation and leadership, our company, a graduate of the Small Business Administration 8(a) certification program, has reached its high peaks and stabilized in size and revenues.

From our small beginnings as an electrical service provider, to mentor-protégé alliances, to Small Business Administration certifications, Bay has established a remarkable presence throughout the eastern seaboard from as far north as Kittery, Maine to as far south as Jacksonville, Florida, and as far west as Louisiana, North Dakota and Montana. As a business owner, John wholeheartedly believes that we must all secure what we have established in years gone by, build upon those solid foundations, and look forward with great expectation to the future.
