Bay Electric Co., Inc., was awarded a contract for the installation of 3 school bus charging dispensers for the City of Alexandria’s 5 electric buses. These new buses are equipped with Vehicle-to-Grid technology. This technology requires a smarter grid, which Dominion Energy is currently working to make possible in all locations, thanks to the Grid Transformation and Security Act of 2018.
If energy needs are high or if renewable resources are intermittent, the batteries can provide stability to the grid. Also, during a power outage or emergency, the batteries could serve as mobile power stations if needed.
Alexandria is getting an additional 10 chargers and buses in 2022.
